Bigha to square feet in Rajasthan: 132-foot chain (1957 rules)
1 Bigha = 17424 square feet
Appendix I of the Rajasthan Land Revenue (Land Records) Rules, 1957 lists a 132-foot chain (Gantari Jarib) for areas such as former Jodhpur State areas in Jodhpur, Barmer, Jalore and Nagaur, and former Bharatpur, Jaisalmer, Sirohi, Dungarpur, Banswara, Kotah and Jhalawar State areas. One chain by one chain is one Bigha: 132 × 132 feet = 17,424 square feet, or 2½ Bighas per acre. Other areas of Rajasthan use other chain lengths, so match the scale on your record, not the district alone.
Calculate using this scaleWhere does this scale apply?
- One chain by one chain: 132 x 132 feet = 17,424 sq ft per Bigha, 2 1/2 Bighas per acre. Use only if your record is in Bighas on this 132-foot scale.
- Other former-state areas in the same districts use other lengths, such as Jaipur and Tonk areas at 165 feet. Udaipur and Bikaner-area rows are not mapped here. Biswa subdivisions are outside this choice.
- Scope overlap: this scope includes former Jodhpur State areas in Nagaur, the district listed for the Didwana 2020 project convention, whose Bigha (about 2,508 sq m) is about 55% larger than this one. Match the Bigha size on your record; see discrepancy RJ-NAGAUR-DIDWANA-SCOPE-OVERLAP.
Match the measurement scale on your registry or Jamabandi. A familiar unit name can represent different areas in different places.
How to convert
Area in square feet = amount in Bigha × 17424.
